MAET Course Work
CEP 810: Teaching for understanding with technology
Prof. Susan Wright
CEP 810 introduced me to many different forms of technology and ways that these can be integrated into the classroom. Integration into the classroom can be either on the student end, using technology, or on the teacher end, supporting learning and creating resources for students and parents to use. This course was also my introduction to TPACK and the idea that technology alone is not enough. Instead, we need to think of technology along with pedagogy, content, and the context in which we work.
CEP 811:Adapting Innovative Technologies with Education
Prof. Allison Keller
CEP 812 focused on the idea of Universal Design for Learning and assistive technologies. We created a lesson plan using technology and used the principles of UDL to evaluate and re-write our lesson so students may access the content easier. We also learned about various websites and resources that we could use in the classroom to help students gain a deeper understanding of the content.
CEP 812: Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice
Prof. S. Plair
CEP 813 focused on applying what we had learned about technology to a problem that we noticed in our classroom. To support us through the process of addressing this problem we continued to learn about TPACK and the importance of focusing not just on technology, but on how technology could support student learning. We needed to use our knowledge of TPACK to apply to the problem we chose to address.
CEP 800: Learning in School and Other Settings
Prof. Punya Mishra
This class focused on different learning theories and ways they can be applied in the classroom. Learning theories have been used throughout education to help teachers better understand and teach their students. For each learning theory that we addressed we looked at how this could be used in the classroom today. We also looked for examples of how the learning theory affects our lives today.
CEP 815: Technology & Leadership
Prof. Punya Mishra
CEP 815 focused on different types of technology. Teachers can use technology in many different ways in their classroom. Technology can be used as a communication tool, technology can be used as a teaching tool, and technology can be used as an organizational tool. Throughout this class we focused on adapting technology to be used as a teaching tool. Most technology was not created for classroom use and must be adapted before used in the classroom. The major project for this couse was a Web 2.0 Wiki that we created and focused on different research tools available to students.
CEP 822: Approached to Educational Research
Prof. Punya Mishra
CEP 822 focused focused on different topics in Educational Research. Throughout the course we learned about TPACK and the different ways that technology can be used to enhance student learning. Many of the papers we read focused on the importance of background knowledge and connecting learning to students background knowledge. One major project we completed, was where we looked at the general populations understanding of an everyday happening. Our group looked at sound and what sound is comprised of. Student background knowledge greatly affects students understanding, and thus by better understanding what our students know coming to us we are able to help them to better grasp the content. Our major project in this class was the Dream It project. The Dream It project looked a general concept or idea that we wanted students to grasp. We then developed a plan using technology to help students gain this deeper understanding.
CEP 806: Learning Science with Technology
Prof David Wong
CEP 806 focused on teaching science classes with technology. Throughout the class we created three inquiry projects. As part of the projects we developed a specific topic that interested us and researched it in our classroom. Once we had researched the topic we reflected on our findins in group and reported back. As also learned about different applications of technology that are relevant to science classes. We found that there was often research to support both the use of technology and if choosing not to use technology there was often a good reason.
CEP 820: Teaching K-12 Students Online
Prof. Anne Heintz
CEP 820 was an online course development class. Throughout this class we learned about the different aspects of teaching an online class. Along with the aspects of online classes, we learned about the different types of online programs available. With each different types of program there were different challenges and details to think about. Our final project was to create an online course module, 3 lessons long, that would demonstrate what we learned throughout the course.
TE 846: Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learning
Prof. Erin Jurand
TE 846 focuses on working with struggling readers. The class looks at different struggles students have with reading and how to get them caught up to grade level. The course cumulated in a Literacy Learner Analysis Paper. The purpose of this paper is to work with a struggling reader to address one aspect the student is struggling with.
